Block House Creek Neighborhoods
Boasting 100 acres of “green” , this is a beautiful neighborhood with very old and majestic oak trees, five parks, two pools (one heated), tennis courts, sand volleyball court, basketball court, disc golf, sidewalks, and a bike trail park. Block House creek runs through the neighborhood and some of the homes enjoy this creek at the rear of their homes. It is nice to sit by the creek under the beautiful trees and listen to the waterfalls as the creek runs.
Block House Creek Features
Neighborhood special features are not scarce. One, on the third Saturday of every month, residents may take objects of trash that are not allowed in the weekly garbage pick-up to the Jumano Park. What else can you do with those tree limbs and bags of leaves? This is a free service to residents. Two, every other month, there is a neighborhood garage sale. Fun, fun, fun! There are also movies in the park.
Block House Creek Builders
Block House Creek has homes built by by David Weekly, Newmark Homes, Pulte Homes, Gemcraft Homes, Roper-Baldwin, Centex, D. R. Horton and various other builders. Different sections of the nighborhood look unique to the others and it is considered to be a “must see” neighborhood.
Walker House in Block House Creek
Central to the neighborhood is the Historical Walker House which was built in the late 1800s, and was home to Alexander Stuart (A.S.) Walker, an early community leader. Today, it has been saved and renovated by the MUD to host meetings and small gatherings for Block House residents. Various functions are held here and it is a most serene setting.
Block House Creek Neighborhood Parks
Toward the side of Walker House, there is a lighted pavilion with picnic tables, a water fountain, trash cans and access to electrical outlets. This is used for larger neighborhood gatherings.
Tumlinson Park covers 20-acres. This majestic oak canopied park brings absolute peace and serenity to the neighborhood. It includes the Tumlinson Pool with a newly-installed three –tiered slide and has a mushroom waterfall. A great place to walk is the hiking trail circling the park. It is shaded by lush oak and pecan trees. There are picnic tables, barbeque grill, a sand volleyball court and chess/checkerboard tables. This is a great place to hang out with your family on the week-ends.
If you want to join a pick-up baseball game at the baseball diamond, you may hitch your bikes on the bike racks. There are bleachers for parents and other spectators. This park also offers two tennis courts, a basketball court and another sport court..
You will often see young mothers and their children at one of the two playscapes which offer features for different age groups. There are ladders, slides and tunnels which offer soft surfaces beneath to allow kids to have protection while playing. There are also benches here to allow parents to visit with each other and monitor their children at play. There are water fountains to quench the thirst of the children as well as parents.
Tonkawa Park is located at the front of the neighborhood and to the left. It covers 13 acres and groups can play soccer and football here. This park features a walking trail, a water fountain and trash cans. The landscaping is mountain laurel, elm and red bud trees.
Comanche Park is a berm at the front of the entrance. You will recognize it by the limestone marker and the flagpole.
Apache Park is in the middle of the neighborhood and is the home of the year-round heated Apache Pool. It is a six lane pool and swim lessons and water aerobics are available during the summer months. It is also home to the Tidal Wave Swim Team. The pool and restrooms are heated during the cooler months. This is a two-acre park which includes a play scape with ladders, climbing features and a spiral slide. Parents can watch their children near the play scape which is circled by a sidewalk and benches. Beautiful native oak trees and artfully placed boulders create an attractive landscape.
Jumano Park is a two acre park and there is wildlife including rabbits and squirrels. This is a heavily wooded natural area with cedar, prickly pear cactus, agarita.
Schools for Block House Creek
In the Leander ISD, Block House Creek Elementary School is located in the neighborhood and many of the students walk or ride their bikes to school.
Block House school children seem to enjoy being able to play with their friends in the neighborhood after school.
